We are 5 weeks from the last AWANA on April 30th. That means that
there are only 4 weeks left to say sections and complete your book
during this school year by April 23rd.
Mark your calendars for April 30th awards night- it's a night where
all the families stay and see the children who have completed their
books recognized. We also hand out information about special summer
events and normally have a treat. It's also the last buck table of
the year and you can help your child spend all the bucks they have
earned this year. So plan to STAY at AWANA that evening.
If you have a child who is new to SPARKS this year, and they are in
the HANGLIDER book and have earned their 'wings', and your wings have
broken, or jewels have fallen out, please let one of us know at the
secretary tables and we will help you replace anything missing.
Please don't let them wear wings that the pins are coming off!
If you are new to AWANA or aren't sure if your child has earned a book
award, here is an explanation that might help:
Speaking of book awards, you might want to plan now to be sure that
your child can finish his/her book this year. Typically every child
is encouraged to complete their book in one school year as the AWANA
program has one book per grade level. (if they are not moving to a
new age level, they can finish the book the following year, but then
they will struggle to complete the book for that grade level. If
they are moving from 2nd grade to 3rd grade- they are graduating to T
and T and will skip any of the books they have not completed from
sparks.)
Please also help your children to complete all the sections in each
jewel or discovery section in order--they cannot do section 1, 2 and
then skip to 4 because section 3 was too hard, involves bringing a
friend, or something else- if they cannot bring a friend, they should
have been given a scripture memory option, if they can't memorize a
song completely, write a note or talk to your leader or director, we
can help find acceptable alternatives. We keep pictures of our AWANA
missionary there for those who need them to put in their books, we do
everything we can to help them have a way to finish their books!
If you aren't sure where you child is, and looking at the book is
confusing, please feel free to ask a director (for cubbies- becky
kraus, for sparks Art or Lois Manning, for T and T Donnie Patten or
Heather Jimo, for Trek John Franzen or Jay Ferandes, or our Commanders
Wendy Witter and Brent Fessler, if you don't know who any of these
people are, ask at registration or at the secretary table and we'll
help you get your answer.)
There are 4 weeks of section saying left-- so we will lift the limit
and let children say more than 4 sections per week if that's what it
takes to complete their books. (If they have less than 16 review
sections, we will limit their review just so that they can earn the
weekly prizes and have something to do during handbook time)
Cubbies work together to complete the same section each week, so if
your child has been absent a lot you can check with Becky Kraus about
completing the book.
In the sparks book, you have completed the book when you have earned
all 4 green and red jewels. Then there is an option to first review
all the sections in the book and add the last 10 'review section'
verses and earn an additional review patch in addition to the book
award.
In the T and T book, you need to complete all 8 discovery sections.
The gold and silver parts are the extra review sections for those who
finish before the year is up.
In any book sparks or t and t, students earn more bucks for our buck
table by completing the review sections after finishing their books
(so it's worth it to some kids who might not review the whole book-
they love the chance to have more money for the buck table.)
Thanks for your commitment to our AWANA program this year. It's a
great joy for us to see over 110 dubuque children coming to our
club!
